Hi everyone! I'm back and am in wedding mode as its engagement season for me! Cutcardstock is offering 10% off select brown bag kraft items this month, check it out! For certain kinds of events, kraft paper/elements are absolutely perfect. What's really cool for weddings right now is to mix vintage/salvaged looks with more formal touches.

Chalkboards and kraft paper were once relegated to only "vintage" and "rustic" affairs, but now, brides are doing pretty much what they want. The newer introduction of recyclable and salvaged materials, alongside fabulous linens and formal tables has really worked and for now, is here to stay.

As a calligrapher navigating this landscape, I'm starting to get requests to write on non-traditional surfaces more and more. Stones, chalkboards, glass, mirrors, etc. I thought it would be nice to show how you can simply affix some A2-sized kraft envelopes  onto an oval filigree styled mirror to gather messages from your guests. I know it seems risky, but non-traditional guest books are now all the rage and this will absolutely not only be a conversation starter, but a memorable component of your big day.

Step 1.
Write out a title with a white paint marker: Potential titles --> "Leave Messages for the Bride and Groom", "Leave Us a Note", "Messages for Memories"

You can print out your message on text weight stock and rub the back of it with some chalk. Make sure you do it liberally. Then carefully trace. Use a paint marker over the residue.

Step 2.
Affix envelopes neatly using glue dots. They will be a pain to remove later if you are planning on re-purposing the mirror, but you want to make sure they are affixed securely. If not, they'll ever survive guests yanking on them in order to place their message inside. Be sure to leave a stack of blank sheets for them to write on and insert after writing out a message.

The addition of the glitter clothespins is just to add another touch of bling. SUPER cheap. I think I found these in the dollar bin at Target.

You can find GREAT mirrors at places like Thrift stores and department stores home goods/wall decor sections. Just take your time and be sure to GRAB one if you see a good fit. They go quickly.

Take care til' next time!
